Everything you need to know about qrRwanda

General Questions

What is qrRwanda?

qrRwanda is Rwanda's comprehensive QR code generator platform that allows you to create, manage, and track QR codes for various purposes. With support for 24+ QR code types including URLs, WiFi, vCards, restaurant menus, and more, we provide everything you need for personal and business use with local payment options.

What is a QR code?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that can store various types of information. When scanned with a smartphone camera or QR reader, it instantly directs users to websites, displays text, shares contact information, connects to WiFi, and much more.

Do I need an account to create QR codes?

Yes, you must be logged in to create QR codes. Registration is completely free and takes less than a minute.

Why login is required:

  • Track your QR codes - Save and manage all your generated QR codes
  • Scan analytics - See how many times your QR codes are scanned
  • Plan management - Track usage limits and upgrade when needed
  • Security - Protect your QR codes and data

Without login, the QR generator form is disabled. Sign up or log in here

Are QR codes free to create?

Yes! Our Free plan allows you to create up to 10 QR codes with 100 total scans. For more QR codes and unlimited scans, check out our affordable paid plans:

  • Starter ($10/month) - 100 QR codes, 10,000 scans
  • Professional ($30/month) - 1,000 QR codes, 100,000 scans
  • Enterprise ($100/month) - Unlimited QR codes & scans

Do QR codes expire?

Static QR codes never expire. Once created, they will work forever. However, scan tracking data retention depends on your plan:

  • Free Plan: 7 days of analytics data
  • Limited Plan: 14 days of analytics data
  • Full Access Plan: 14 days of analytics data
  • Pro Plan: 3 years of analytics history

The QR codes themselves continue working, but older analytics may be archived based on your plan.

Can I track scans on my QR codes?

Yes! All registered users get scan tracking with the following data:

  • Total scans - How many times your QR code was scanned
  • Unique visitors - Different people who scanned (by IP address)
  • Device types - Mobile, tablet, or desktop
  • Browser information - Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.
  • Scan timestamps - When each scan occurred
  • Geographic location - Country/city (Pro plan only)

Important: Tracking only works when QR codes are scanned in production (live website). On localhost, all scans appear from the same IP address (127.0.0.1).

Can I edit a QR code after creating it?

No, static QR codes cannot be edited after creation because the data is permanently encoded in the image. However, you have these options:

  • Regenerate: Create a new QR code with updated information from your dashboard
  • Dynamic QR Codes: Available on Full Access and Pro plans - these allow you to change the destination URL without changing the QR code image

All your QR codes are saved in your dashboard for easy recreation.

What file formats can I download?

All users can download in PNG format (the most common and widely compatible).

Available formats by plan:

  • Free Plan: PNG only (up to 1000x1000px)
  • Limited/Full Plans: PNG + SVG (vector format for printing)
  • Pro Plan: PNG + SVG + PDF (professional formats with bulk download)

Format recommendations:

  • PNG: Best for digital use (websites, social media, emails). Download at least 500x500px, prefer 1000x1000px for printing.
  • SVG: Vector format that scales infinitely without quality loss - perfect for large prints, banners, billboards.
  • PDF: Professional format for sharing with print shops, includes embedded fonts and colors.

Security & Privacy

Is my data secure?

Absolutely! We take security seriously:

  • Encryption: TLS 1.2+ for all data transmission (HTTPS)
  • Passwords: Hashed with bcrypt (industry-standard one-way encryption)
  • Database: Prepared statements prevent SQL injection attacks
  • XSS Protection: All user input is sanitized and escaped
  • CSRF Protection: State tokens on forms and OAuth flows
  • Sessions: HTTP-only, secure cookies with regular regeneration
  • OAuth: Google Sign-In uses OAuth 2.0 with state verification

We never:

  • Store plain-text passwords
  • Sell your data to third parties
  • Share your information without consent

Read our Privacy Policy for complete details.

Do you store my QR code data?

Yes, but only for registered users with accounts. Here's what we store:

  • QR Code Content: The actual data encoded (URL, text, contact info, etc.)
  • Metadata: QR type, title, creation date, unique code for tracking
  • Analytics: Scan timestamps, IP addresses, device types, browsers

Important: You must create a free account to generate QR codes. There is no "guest mode" - this enables us to provide scan tracking and analytics.

Short URLs: QR codes use trackable short URLs like http://yourdomain.com/s.php?id=abc123 which redirect to your actual destination while logging scan data.

Data retention varies by plan: Free (7 days), Limited/Full (14 days), Pro (3 years).

Can I delete my account and data?

Yes. You can delete your account at any time from your dashboard settings. This will permanently remove all your QR codes, analytics data, and personal information from our servers. This action cannot be undone.

Technical Support

My QR code isn't scanning. What should I do?

Try these troubleshooting steps:

  • Size: QR code too small - minimum 2cm x 2cm (0.8" x 0.8") for close-range scanning
  • Resolution: Download at least 500x500px for printing (use PNG format for best quality)
  • Contrast: Ensure dark QR code on light background - avoid light colors on light backgrounds
  • Damage: Check if printed code is smudged, wrinkled, or distorted
  • Lighting: Ensure good lighting when scanning - avoid glare and shadows
  • Distance: Hold camera 10-30cm away from code (not too close, not too far)
  • Scanner App: Try different QR scanner apps - built-in camera apps usually work
  • Data Length: Very long URLs may create complex QR codes - test with a URL shortener first

Still having issues? Test the QR code on your own phone before printing. Contact info@qrrwanda.inovasiyo.rw if problems persist.

What size should I print my QR code?

Minimum recommended sizes based on scan distance:

  • Business cards (close scan): 2cm x 2cm (0.8" x 0.8")
  • Flyers/Posters (1-2m distance): 3-5cm x 3-5cm (1.2"-2" x 1.2"-2")
  • Banners (3-5m distance): 10-15cm x 10-15cm (4"-6" x 4"-6")
  • Billboards (10m+ distance): 50cm x 50cm (20" x 20") or larger

Resolution: Download PNG at 1000x1000px or higher for printing. SVG format (vector) is best for large prints as it scales infinitely without quality loss.

Rule of thumb: QR code size (cm) = scan distance (cm) รท 10. For 1 meter distance, use 10cm QR code.
